“We can go anywhere you want. Any time you want.
One condition: it has to be amazing.”
Well, two of the above can be true without the Doctor’s help. Four continents and ten countries. Are you ready?
10| Cape Town, South Africa
The Eleventh season and the Thirteenth Doctor brought us a lot of new surprises and new Doctor who filming locations as well. The first female incarnation of the Doctor visits South Africa and makes this beautiful place, not just a country where the doctor visited but also gives us a new exciting Doctor Who filming location.
South Africa is one of the most culturally diverse country and continent on our planet. You will find here something brand new to discover here every day. One thing is for sure; There is a lot of new exciting thing to look forward to both story wise and visually this October.
9| Dunvegan Castle, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Another Thirteenth season location only from the first serial of Doctor Who way back from 1975 and with the Fourteenth Doctor. There are more locations in this episode but this beautiful Castle is hands down the most beautiful of them all. The Dunvegan Castle has breathtaking surroundings and it has been continuously owned by the same family for more than eight centuries now. Scotland is a magical place where you can explore nature, history, and ancient legends and myths.
There are plenty of amazing things you can do on Isle of Sky in and around the Castle. You should check out the Dunvegan Castle & Garden official site to get some ideas about what experiences you can have here. Believe me, it’s one of the most magical places on earth. Also worth mentioning that this place is not only a Doctor Who filming location but was the shooting place for many other amazing series and movies including 47 Ronin, Highlander, and Macbeth just to mention a couple.
8| Empire State Building, New York, USA
This city truly has a million stories and more. The Doctor visited the “Big Apple” a couple of times now and probably the most famous site was the Empire State Building visited by the Tenth doctor who stopped a human-Dalek invasion. But there is a lot more Doctor Who filming locations you can visit in the city that never sleeps. While you probably don’t have to stop invasions while visiting, you most definitely will find other heart-pounding adventures there.
7| Shibuya Crossing, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan

6| Hagia Sophia, Istanbul, Turkey
If you really want to feel like as a time traveler, head to Istanbul. This city has breath-taking architecture and a vibe that will make you feel like you’re vacationing in the past. This magical city was also visited more than once by the doctor. It was visited by the First Doctor when the citie’s name was Constantinople, the Fifth, the Seventh, and most recently the Ninth Doctor too.
5| Avenue des Champs Elysées, Paris, France
Paris has an old-timey feel to it and not just because this photo is vintage. This is another fascinating city where you can feel like as if you traveled through not just space but time as well. Paris has managed to keep its charm and style throughout the years which keeps the city in one of the top positions on tourists’ list.
This city was one of the favorites of the First Doctor who thought of Paris as “one of the most civilized of cities”. Paris is definitely a Doctor Who approved destination and was visited and adored by the Fourth and Twelfth doctor as well. For sure its a city where you can relax, indulge yourself with a cup of something in every corner and visit an endless number of art galleries and historical places.
4| Valencia, Spain
Valencia is the beautiful and futuristic city where ‘Smile’ episode was filmed. This city quickly became one of the most well-known and beloved Doctor Who filming locations in the fandom world. The episode was filmed in the City of Arts and Science created by futuristic architect Santiago Calatrava. Although the filming took place in Spain it was an off-Earth location in the show where locals communicated solely through emoji.
There are many other locations in Spain that are mentioned or visited by the Doctor including Calle Susona, Seville, El Volcan del Cuervo, Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide, Tenerife, and the Eighth Doctor visited Barcelona. So far there were six stories shot in Spain. If you’re looking for an epic road trip for this summer you can travel around Spain and visit all of them.
3| Venice, Italy
Ohh, Italy… hands down my favorite country. And while my favorite city is Florence (Firenze) Venice is another one of the many unmissable, ancient cities of the country. The city’s most memorable appearance was when the Eleventh Doctor visited in “The Vampires of Venice” episode. The Doctor found this city “incredibly attractive” and was visited by him multiple times; The First, the Eighth, and the Thirteenth Doctor have been to the city as well.
2. Hensol Castle, Hensol, Wales

If you’re a fan of Doctor Who, literature, and history then this magical castle is the perfect Doctor Who Destination. This gothic style castle dates back to 1419 and played many roles throughout the years. For a short period of time, it even became “Hensol Hospital” and it housed patients with learning disabilities. Now it mainly serves as a wedding, conference venue, and occasional filming location.
The castle was visited by the Tenth Doctor who here meets the most famous mystery writer; Agatha Christie in the “The Unicorn and the Wasp”. The castle’s interiors were used in many other episodes as well, including “Aliens in London”, “World War Three”, and “The Sound of Drums”. The Hensol Castle is also close to many other famous Doctor Who filming locations since many places around Wales were used by the creators.
1. London, Uk
London is one of my favorite cities for sure and it just makes it even more perfect that it’s the most visited city by the Doctor and it has countless of Doctor Who filming locations all over the place. You don’t even have to stop at filming locations. You can also visit Doctor Who Shops, Museums, and even a real Tardis at the middle of Earls Court Road. Not to mention that London is the only city that was visited by all 12 Doctors (sometimes multiple Doctors at the same time) throughout history and it’s highly likely to be by the following ones as well.
This city is the perfect city to proudly let your geek/Doctor Who
“We’re all stories, in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?”
I’ve visited seven places out of the ten mentioned above. I’m not sure when will I cross off all of them from my list but I’m sure of one thing; I want even more because all the seven continents are on my list. Where was your favorite destination that was visited by the Doctor? Do you plan on going?
